Our Innovation in Archery award!

Norton Archers is a friendly, dynamic club on Teesside with members who shoot for both pleasure and competition. We were named Club of the Year at the Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Club, Volunteer and Coach Awards 2011 within our first year of existence, and continue to go from strength to strength; in March 2013 we were presented with our first national award, the ontarget Innovation in Archery Award! We are open to all archers who are Archery GB affiliated members (please email to let us know if you want to come along to a session and bring your Archery GB card with you), and if you would like to take up archery for the first time we also run 5-session beginners' courses; these are a requirement to coach you in shooting safely before joining any archery club. More information on the courses can be found on our beginners' page, including the process for registering your interest in taking a course with us.

We shoot at Norton (Teesside) Sports Complex (more information on the sessions page). If you would like to ask anything about the club please feel free to contact us via email or telephone if your question does not feature on our Frequently Asked Questions page; we now have over 100 members and our committee members are all volunteers so although we are very happy to answer any specific queries you may have to help you out it would also really help us out if you check that your question hasn't already been answered on the FAQs page - thanks!

Sport Wish Token logo

A big thank you to everyone who collected Evening Gazette Wish Sport Tokens throughout July and August 2012 - we won £209.56 for the club!

We're taking part in the Wish Sport appeal again this year, collecting tokens throughout May and June 2013; click here for more information on this excellent scheme, and here for the Evening Gazette article featuring us as one of the participating clubs!

The answer is 'yes' - now, what was the question?

Open To All
Anyone over the age of 8 years can apply for membership or take a beginners' course with us, although under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you would like to take a beginners' course and feel that you may have to adjust the way you shoot due to a disability, please feel free to discuss this with our coaches at any time; archery is a very inclusive sport and our coaches have had training from the Head Coach for Paralympic Archery at London 2012 to help adapt the standard shooting style for a range of disabilities, including visual impairments and spinal injuries.

In terms of the styles of archery we take part in, our members use a wide range of bows (including Olympic-style recurve bows, longbows, compound bows and more) for target archery during practice sessions and in competitions, and attend field archery, clout and flight competitions in addition. Our competition achievements are all recorded on our Twitter feed - as you can see, our novices and juniors in particular are having a great year!

We are affiliated to Archery GB, Durham and Northumberland Archery Association (DNAA) and Northern Counties Archery Society (NCAS). We are also part of Archery GB's club development programme, ontarget, with a Community Specialism within the ontarget programme, and are proud to have supported the Archery Big Weekend and Join In Olympic legacy programme by holding a have-a-go day in August 2012. We will be taking part in the Archery Big Weekend/Join In weekend for 2013 too by running a have-a-go event from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August - keep checking back for details!
